Forests are fundamental in preserving rich levels of biodiversity all over the world, regulating the Earth’s climate, keeping our air clean for generations to come, and providing sustenance for both animals, plants, and humans. Although it can be hard to imagine, before the rapid industrial expansions of the 20th and 21st centuries the planet would have been covered in dense, green forest. However, nearly all this woodland has now been destroyed, with most losses occurring over the last 100 years. What remains of the small percentage of forests today is home to two-thirds of all existing plants and animals and 80% of terrestrial biodiversity.

Sustainably sourcing our wood is a fundamental priority for us as a company. As specialists in wood, we understand the importance of protecting forests and the people and wildlife who call them home. We are proud to say that every single one of our products is FSC and PEFC registered.

Why choose sustainable?

When consciously sourced, engineered wood can be one of the eco-friendliest flooring options. Wood that is registered with FSC and PEFC comes from sustainably managed forests. This means the forest stewards manage the landscape to protect the trees, wildlife, and ecosystems, with the focus being on a long-term view of the resource rather than a likely harmful short-term view.

It has even been proven in a university study that engineered wood flooring scores higher in greenhouse potential and primary energy consumption than other flooring options, such as carpet.

Who are FSC and PEFC?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) ensure that wood comes from sustainable sources. This includes guaranteeing the wood is replaced after harvesting and is taken without harming the environment and nearby ecosystems.

To achieve accreditation with FSC and PEFC, we must meet rigorously high standards relating to responsible forest management.
