Practical Floors For Pet Loving Homes

Practical Floors For Pet Loving Homes

10th Aug 2023

When it comes to pet-friendly flooring, there are a few things that you need to consider. Not all floors can stand up to the wear and tear of pets, but luckily there are plenty of options for us pet owners who want to keep our floors looking good while still being comfortable for our furry friends.

The first thing you should consider when looking for pet-friendly flooring is the type of material it is made from. The following floors types are the best options, read on to find out how they differ and which one is right for you.

Vinyl Tile

Vinyl tile flooring is a great option for pet owners as it is highly durable and resistant to scratches. It is also easy to clean, making it an ideal choice for homes with pets. Vinyl tile floors are also water-resistant, so any accidents or messes can be quickly wiped up without causing damage. Additionally, vinyl tile has excellent insulation properties that help maintain a comfortable temperature in your home. It is also easy to install and comes in a variety of colours, patterns, and designs so you can find the perfect fit for your pet-friendly space.

At The Wood Flooring Co., our vinyl tile floors are manufactured to replicate the look and feel of a real wood or stone floor with a 4-sided bevelled edge and a textured surface finish. With a click lock mechanism they are super easy to install and don't require any adhesive, making them a great DIY option for competent renovators.

Quiet and warm underfoot with an added repellent against dirt and bacteria, vinyl tile flooring is the ideal choice for homes with pets. Our select collection of contemporary tiles are suitable for all rooms including bathrooms and utility areas.

No-Vinyl Tile

Our No-Vinyl Tiles are 100% waterproof (as in TOTALLY waterproof) so can more than handle muddy paws, sloppy drinkers and skinny dippers. This also makes them super hygienic since they are extremely easy to clean and can stand up to multiple moppings - definitely a great option for those who love their clean homes as much as their muddy pets! With a scratch resistant, non-porous surface, these tiles will not absorb liquids or other substances and come with a lifetime guarantee for domestic use.

They're not only pet friendly, but planet friendly too since they're completely PVC and plasticiser free and also fully recyclable.  In addition, each tile consists of over 90% renewable, raw materials, so you know that when you opt for a No-Vinyl Tile you are making a more environmentally conscious flooring choice.

As huge fans and advocates of engineered wood flooring, authenticity in our No-Vinyl Tile range was always going to be paramount. That’s why our range of No-Vinyl Tiles come as close as possible to the look and feel of a real wooden plank, our very best alternative. Suitable for heavy domestic use, as well as light commercial, this floor our No-vinyl click flooring is the ideal choice for busy environments.

Engineered Wood

Engineered wood flooring is another great option for pet owners. It is made up of several layers of plywood which makes it more durable than solid wood floors, meaning that with the right care it can withstand scratches and spills from pets. The top layer also has a protective finish that helps keep dirt and bacteria away, making your home a healthier environment for everyone. Quiet and warm underfoot (and paw!), engineered wood flooring is also quieter than for example a laminate floor when laid with a sound reducing underlay.

One thing to bare on mind with engineered wood flooring is that it is not suited to getting wet and spillages must be dealt with a soon as possible. This is due to natural wood swelling when water is left on its surface which can damage the plank. This also means that regular wet mopping is best avoided. For this reason, it is best to place matting at entranceways where wet paws are a regular occurrence, or under water bowls where spillages and dribbles can happen. But generally wood flooring is still a great hardwearing option for homes with pets and it will last for years to come when properly looked after. It can also be sanded down and retreated every few years or when needed to bring it back to its former beauty.

Laminate

Laminate flooring is made from compressed wooden fibres and finished with a highly durable surface printed with your chosen finish (usually a wood effect plank). This top melamine surface is what makes laminate flooring extremely resilient and hardwearing. It is water resistant so will stand up to spillages and wet paws for a longer period of time than a real wood, however it is not completely waterproof in the same way as a vinyl (or no-vinyl) tile can be.

Our laminate floors are particularly resilient to micro scratches and abrasions, so are extremely suited to pet loving homes. With DIY click installation and a natural wood effect texture they have a highly authentic finish which is akin to the look and feel of a real wooden floor. Starting below £20 per sqm, they're also kind on the pocket!
